Life Lately: Christmas Edition

I love the festive Christmas season, thankfully I’m on vacation this week to enjoy it and I’ve been busy getting ready for upcoming family parties and doing some initial baking.  Work has been a non-stop whirlwind of what seems like bureaucratic chaos (it may sound dramatic but it is true on many levels especially as I’m heading toward changes with my position) so to say I am happy for this break is an understatement.   This has also contributed to why I have not been consistent with posts lately so I do apologize. I thought it was a great time to share a Christmas edition of my Life Lately posts.

A few weeks ago the hubs and I had a date day while the girls were at school so we headed to see a movie but first stopped off for a break at my favourite shopping destination. Of course I had to take a pic in front of the pretty Swarovski tree so I could share my OOTD.  This outfit is a perfect example of mixing high and low (budget) pieces, the Old Navy jacket (love this similar one), booties and sweater were all steals whereas my new Rag & Bone distressed jeans and this Marc Jacobs bag are higher end.

I just tried a new cheesecake recipe that I found online, Blueberry Lemon Cheesecake Cake.  It looked divine when I saw the pics so I had to try.  Although it was good I definitely need more practice on perfecting this dessert, it’s a bit of a time-consuming recipe and getting the right consistency for the cake is tricky.  If you are a fan of blueberries, lemon and cheesecake this is one to try.

I love baking cookies this time of year, I just made these Cream Cheese cookies for this first time and they were very easy to make and had a deliciously delicate sweet flavour.   I also can’t wait to try these: Nutella Stuffed Snowball Cookies and these Macadamia Chocolate Chip Shortbread

I used to do baking posts here on the blog way back when so here are a few more of my favourite desserts for the holiday season: Mini cheesecakesmini pecan tarts and classic shortbread cookies.

We have been enjoying fun Christmas activities with the girls and this past weekend was all about celebrating with them, we saw the Christmas play at church on Saturday and then on Sunday spent time making gingerbread houses and watching Christmas cartoons…the girls final products:

In terms of shopping for gifts I have barely started…yikes!! I thought I would put together some fun and glam gifts under $40 to help get me motivated and give you some ideas too.

1.velvet crossbody bag / 2. heat reactive mug / 3. photo display / 4. Classic plaid blanket scarf / 5. Lance lipgloss set /6. moccasin slippers / 7. Studded fold-over scarf / 8. embellished gloves

Wishing you all the very best for the holiday season and to all who celebrate hope you and your families have a very Merry Christmas!

Thanks for stopping by and reading!

I love your distressed black jeans. I have gone back and forth of whether I want a pair and if they are worth the splurge. Seeing them on you makes me want to buy them! I hope you have a wonderful (and restful) Merry Christmas, Marta!
