My Year in Review and #OLW

Happy New Year friends!! I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday season and that your 2016 is off to a great start! I feel excited about this year ahead more so than in years past.  2015 had ups and quite a few downs so I’m looking at this new year as a fresh start. It seemed to be a tough year for many people surrounding me so I hope that this year will bring more peace, health and overall contentment.  I’ve learned that happiness is really a choice and being cognizant of your reactions to situations and how you handle adversity is key.  Today I wanted to review my fave posts from 2015 and for any of you who missed them just click on the number links below which will take you to the posts:

I like many others have never been very successful at following new year resolutions so for the past couple of years I have steered away from setting any. However, this year I noticed an interesting idea floating around on social media called #OLW, for those who are not familiar with this hashtag it stands for One Little Word. I was curious to learn more when I started to see these words pop up on my Instagram feed. I was also immediately inspired by reading what these words meant to people and their intentions on how they would be reflecting on their particular word and using it as a motivational tool of sorts for daily life.  I had not seen this hashtag before but after some research I found the blog that I believe this concept originated from back in 2006 and you can read more about it here at Ali Edwards. It’s a simple yet brilliant concept that I knew I wanted to participate in.  The word I choose for this year is FOCUS and since doing so it’s been a motivating factor helping me start off this year in the right direction.  Having little ones is the most amazing blessing in my life but parenting certainly brings about it’s fair share of challenges from disorganization, to times of chaos and of course the perpetual exhaustion.  I must admit that since becoming a mommy I haven’t felt very focussed other than when it comes to taking care of the kiddies.  At times this has led me to feel that I’ve been standing still as I watch life pass by and that’s not a feeling that I wanted to continue into 2016.  I often create lists of things I want to accomplish but they seem to go by the way side when general life as a parent and also as a professional in the workforce hit.  However, as I mentioned above this year feels different to me and that #OLW I choose has brought about some renewed energy.  In these first two weeks of January I already feel that I’ve been more organized and been able to complete some tasks that have been on the back burner.  Now I’m not necessarily talking about major life changes it’s also those little things such as decluttering, reading, spending more quality time with loved ones and reflecting on my faith and God’s presence in my life (I just started a daily devotional I highly recommend called Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace In His Presence).  One example so far is that in the first week of January I finally organized a few years worth of pictures I’ve had on the computer and so they are now all labelled in folders that I can easily print from. I’m also focussed on prioritizing the most important people in my life and investing time in those who are also willing to reciprocate and invest in me.  Over the years I’ve wasted some precious time trying to chase things or relationships that were not really chasing me back so this year I’m choosing to really invest in the positives in my life and those who make an effort for me and my family.  I think we sometimes think of the word ‘investing’ as a financial thing but the most significant investment in life is your time and it is the time that you share with others that will make a difference so let’s make it count! I challenge you all to pick a #OLW that is meaningful to you that will help give more clarity to your own vision for this year ahead.

I would really love to hear if any of you already have a #OLW or how and if you are planning to make changes this year?

Love all your looks but that first one with the blue lace top and the black velvet blazer are my faves! Thanks for sharing your year in review and what your word is for the year. Love this idea and I kinda had one for myself without really putting it down on paper. Mine is patience. Patience with my family, kids, and God’s plan. Happy 2016 Marta!

Sounds like you’re already off to a great start with devotionals, organization and making family and friends a priority. This past summer I started re-connecting with people and I’m finding how much I missed family and they’ve become an important part of 2016.

You have a lovely collection of outfits and I love how you combine prints and florals throughout your looks. Love the poncho sweater in #10!

Marta – Jesus Calling is one of my favorites. Sometimes I think the daily devotionals were written specifically for me. Focus is a great word – and goal, one I am trying to live by this year, along with getting things done. All great looks! Enjoy your day.
